Visits to the NVR in the early 1980's see two B.R. operated railtours; 55007 'Pinza' working the 'Deltic Anglian' and 40013 on the 'Whistler 1'. Also we see Deltic 55022 (9000 as it was known at the time) 'Royal Scots Grey' and 73050 'City Of Peterborough' which were both resident on the line. Makes an interesting comparison with the recent collection of the Nene Valley Railway in 2007!

On 22 September 2006, Virgin Trains ran Pendolino 390 047 non-stop from Glasgow Central to London Euston in a record time of 3 Hours 55 Minutes. The train carried a full load of passengers with all money going to the 'Heaven's Angels' charity, after which the Pendolino was named before departing Glasgow. The 1Z90 12.37 Glasgow - Euston was the first non stop run since 1947 and the first ever southbound sub 4 hour run.

During August 2006 First's Class 185 started passenger operations on the northern pennine routes and some Scarborough turns. This is a small selection of images taken on 29 August 2006.

A visit to the delightful CCLR on a scorching 22 July 2006. In service on the day were 'Sutton Belle' and the Railcar both part of the Sutton Minature Railway collection based at Cleethorpes. The photographs 'travel' in order down the line from Kingsway Station to Lakeside Station.

A very autumnal 7th October 2005 visit to Edale in the Hope Valley sees a variety of Trans Pennine services.

A look at this Southern classic on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and on main line excursions during the early 1980's.

Arriva Trains Wales operated a charter from Crewe to Llandudno and Blaenau in conjunction with the Crewe Works Open Weekend. We see the train at Chester on it's outward trip to Llandudno. Later in the day we view it arriving at Llandudno from Blaenau and then running round for the return to Crewe. This tour provided the very welcome sight of a loco back at Llandudno Station.

A disastorous attempt to launch this handsome train into passenger service during the attrocious winter of 1981/2 led to the APT becoming a laughing stock in the media. It seemed to symbolise the whole perceived trouble with
British Rail at the time.
However, the APT soldiered on for a few years carrying out many test runs. These provided much valuable technical experience apparent in many of today's new trains.
The APT met an undignified and very quiet end.
